Through all the years, the Transit in its biggest sizes has mostly depended heavily on its market positioning to retain its 1st place among UK firms. That’s no longer valid and Ford has known that for a long time. Hence the initiative to upgrade this two-ton version of the 6th generation, with an enhancement programme now completed by including the Eco Blue diesel engines to power this revised model. Now all these units are in action with mild hybrid technology and higher payloads, it’s unlikely to see a lot of a chink in the armoury of this Ford: it’s certainly the big LCV you only need to consider if you’re buying in this category. New Eco Blue diesel engineering (which can also be used in 48-volt mild hybrid form now) brings Ford back on course when it comes to performance returns in the big-van segment-and not earlier.

The 2.0-liter Ford Eco Blue engine is offered under the bonnet in rated power of 105PS, 130PS, 170PS and 185PS, each of which gives increased strength and torque in comparison to the previous. Enhanced low-end pulling power-with 20 per cent more torque at 1.250rpm-offers more versatile and responsive efficiency in daily driving. As an extra bonus for front-wheel-drive and rear-wheel – drive transit vehicles, Eco Blue Hybrid 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain system is very efficient. In addition to the six-speed automatic gearbox already found on the front-wheel drive models, rear-wheel drive transits now are found with a new 10-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Scheduling, which can determine different driving styles to improve gear shift timing.

The body type permutations are enormous. Ford will give you a double cab-in-back, a Kombi, a chassis cabin, and a minibus, as well as the standard back body. Overall, Transit buyers continue to be able to choose from a number of more than 450 core models, including front wheel drive, rear wheel drive and all-wheel drive drivelines, plus a low height Streamlined frame.

Three separate wheelbases are offered here: L2 (Medium), L3 (Long), and L4 (Long Extended). Two roof heights are available too: H2 (Medium Roof) and H3 (High Roof). Ford offers 3 different types of trim: Chief, Trend and Limited. Extra camera protection kit is now available across the range, and the company also offers the new on-board FordPass Connect modem technology so this van’s cab can act entirely as a mobile office.
