The Vito gets a radically different fascia from the V-Class, replaced by strong, workmanship-like simplicity with Merc passenger car luxury. The design is a minimalist effort, no frills but is immaculately designed. These are switchgear taken from the passenger car range, but for industrial applications the plastics are toughened up.

The Mercedes Vito is not as well-known as the Sprinter, its bigger brother, but the new iteration aims to change the state of affairs. The Mercedes mid-size panel van is targeted at the busiest and most successful commercial vehicle market and its rivals include luminaires such as the Ford Transit Standard, Volkswagen Transporter, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Specialist.

Although Vito’s new generation had a reputation for quality and its luxury brand worked well on residual values, the Mercedes van ‘s sales suffered only from modification of its rear drive and a lack of choice in the model range. With the new Vito, though, this is no longer the case, because you can buy it with front- or rear-wheel-drive, with two wheelbase options and three body lengths. You may also order the Vito Crew Van and Tourer minibus models, in addition to the panel van versions. All told, the Vito is now being sold in a format more similar to the variety of options that major competitors offer. To some customers, the lack of a high roof option will remain a problem, but Mercedes obviously thinks that this is an unnecessary connexion to the larger Sprinter model. Within the Vito vans, load volumes range from 5.5 cubic metres to 6.6 cubic metres, while payloads increase to 1,369 kg.
